IN A crucial week for the United Kingdom following the EU referendum, an MP has taken time out to visit politics students hoping to make a difference in the future.

Darlington MP and shadow minister for exiting the European Union, Jenny Chapman, spent an hour talking to A-level students at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College.

Both first and second-year students were invited to listen to and ask questions of the Labour frontbencher and discuss the possibility of a No Deal Brexit and her reservations about a second referendum.

Following an animated debate about the current political climate, Ms Chapman answered questions about her campaign to end period poverty, the prospects of a General Election and how more people than ever have been engaged in politics.

Student, Macy Stasiak, said: "Speaking with Jenny has really encouraged me to get involved in politics because, although the work of Parliament has improved in recent years, there is still plenty to do in making sure everyone’s concerns are taken into consideration."

Tony Dabb, course leader for A-level politics at QESFC, added: "Jenny Chapman gave our students a unique perspective into current events, which is one that others won’t be as fortunate to receive."
