A NURSERY is celebrating after being awarded an ‘outstanding’ rating by Ofsted inspectors.

Darlington's Parkside Childcare and Nursery, in the Coleridge Centre, Skerne Park, was praised for providing a 'stimulating' experience for the children.

Following a recent visit, the inspector commented on the highly motivated staff’s commitment to providing high-quality care and inspirational learning for the children.

They also noted “children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are supported incredibly well through superb partnerships with parents and professionals to ensure they flourish.”

The nursery has an outdoor area and a sensory space which impressed the inspector, especially how the areas are used to enhance children’s learning.

The report said: “All children, including those in receipt of funding, thrive in this stimulating and wholly inclusive environment and make outstanding progress.”

The children, who are aged two to five, at Parkside are encouraged to choose their own activities to ensure they are having fun whilst learning. This approach impressed the inspector as did the children’s behaviour and listening skills.

Julie Peacock, nursery manager, said: “I am delighted that the inspector recognised the work we do here and appreciated the way we put the children and their interests at the heart of everything we do.

"I would like to thank all the staff, parents, carers and children for supporting us to achieve this exceptional result. Without them we wouldn’t have this outstanding nursery.”
