RESIDENTS, business owners and commuters are invited to have their say on proposed changes that would affect a busy town centre road.

Under draft proposals currently being consulted on, a section of Victoria Road could become a one-way system, leading traffic up to Darlington Railway Station, along Park Lane and down Waverley Terrace to connect back with Victoria Road via Clifton Road.

Other proposals include the creation of a pedestrianised plaza area on Bank Top, as well as new cycle paths and widened footpaths leading up to the railway station entrance.

New bus stops would also be installed, as well as a new position on Park Lane for taxi rank provisions.

A diagonal pedestrian crossing at Clifton Road's intersection with Victoria Road has also been suggested.

A consultation session led by Groundwork North East and Cumbria on behalf of Darlington Borough Council will be held in the town's Dolphin Centre tomorrow.

Those interested in shaping the future of Victoria Road or any plans brought forward by the council and Tees Valley Combined Authority can drop-in on the consultation between 3.30pm and 7pm.

A Darlington Borough Council spokesman said: "You are invited to come along and tell us what you think of the proposals.

"Your views will inform a report to the council who will carry out the improvements."

Residents can also view and comment on detailed plans online.
