DARLINGTON are appealing for volunteers to help cover the pitch ahead of Saturday’s game with Spennymoor Town at Blackwell Meadows.

The covers be going on at 2pm today with the club’s academy students plus Tommy Wright and Alan White helping out.

While supporters are invited to lend a hand this afternoon, fans are also needed to remove the covers at 9am on Saturday.

A spokesman for the Darlington FC Supporters Group said: “We are still short of a few volunteers for the Saturday morning session.

“The more people who come down to help at Blackwell Meadows the quicker we will be able to complete the job.

“It is expected to take no more than two hours each session - less if we have over ten people to assist.

“Remember how many fans came down to shift the snow last season - the need is exactly the same!”

Last January volunteers spent hours shovelling snow from the pitch at Blackwell to ensure Quakers’ game with Chorley could go ahead.
