A SHOPPING centre is teaming up with a charity in supporting residents suffering from loneliness.

The Cornmill alongside Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington are holding a Cuppa with a Copper event to talk with their local police community support officers about any police related issues in the town.

The event also hopes to encourage friendship amongst the older community in a safe and welcoming space.

Susan Young, centre manager, said: “We’re always aiming to build on the Cornmill’s current services and by offering our shoppers some practical support and advice in a relaxed setting we’re hoping to contribute to a safer and happier Darlington.”

Staff and volunteers from Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington will provide information regarding the support services available to anyone who may be feeling the effects of loneliness or would like to support a friend or relative who may be living with them.

The team will offer encouragement and advice from 10am until 12pm, shoppers are also invited along to the main atrium at the centre to enjoy a free tea or coffee whilst chatting to a PCSO or group of Age UK ambassadors.

The event is being made possible by the generosity of The Mercure Darlington Kings who will be supplying refreshments, tables and seating for the event.

It will take place in the Cornmill Centre on Monday 14th January allowing residents of all ages to have a space to open up about any issues they may have.
