CHRIS HUNTER has become the latest former Darlington player to join West Auckland Town.

The defender was one of four former Quakers to join South Shields in the summer, Gary Brown, Phil Turnbull and Josh Gillies also moving to Mariners Park.

But Hunter has now signed for West on loan for a month, where he joins seven former Quakers.

They are: Anthony Bell, Nathan Fisher, Adam Mitchell, Tom Portas, Amar Purewal, Craig Turns and Arran Wearmouth.

Plus, ex-Quakers assistant manager Brian Atkinson is with West as a coach.

Hunter’s switch is aimed at giving him more minutes on the pitch after being out for almost a year with damaged ankle ligaments, an injury sustained at the beginning of last season in Darlington’s at North Ferriby.

South Shields joint manager Graham Fenton said: “Chris was out of action for almost a year, and we feel that getting him out for six or seven games will be massively beneficial for us in the long-term.

“We’re looking forward to following his progress over the next month before he returns.”
