AN ILLUSTRATED talk has been organised by the Friends of St Cuthbert's Church to regale guests with the history of Kiplin Hall.

Dawn Webster, curator of the Grade I listed Jacobean house near Scorton, North Yorkshire, will lead the talk due to be held on Tuesday, October 16, from 7.30pm.

The hall was built in the 1620s for George Calvert, Secretary of State to King James I. He later took an interest in the British colonisation of the Americas and became the founder of Maryland, USA.

Ms Webster will reveal more about the hall's 400-year history and future plans.

The Friends of St Cuthbert's Church are currently raising money for the church clock appeal and funds from the meeting will go towards the cause which has already passed the £7,000 mark.

The talk will be held in the church hall and £5 entry includes a glass of wine.
