A FORMER councillor and Team GB coach are teaming up for a community event.

The pair are hosting a table football tournament showcasing some of Europe’s best players at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington.

Red Hall Community Centre trustee and organiser Martin Landers is calling for beginner double teams to register for the event.

He said: “It’s fantastic to see Darlington hosting an international event providing opportunities for the public to pop in and see some of the world’s best players in action.

“I think it will be great for people to take part in beginner events and soak up the atmosphere.

“I would encourage friends, family, colleagues, son and daughters to enter. It will be an amazing day.”

The beginner’s event will be based on the 2018 World Cup, participants will be divided into eight groups of four and will represent a World Cup country.

Children can play alongside adults in the World Cup event or play in a separate children’s event on Sunday October 28, open to youngsters under 15.

Mr Landers and junior Team GB foosball coach Darren Warr hope to inspire more youngsters in the town to take up the game.

Beginner double teams will need to pre-register by emailing martin.landers@ntlworld.com with the names of both players.

The sporting weekend will start on October 26, entry costs £5 and can be paid at the door.

The money raised will go towards the running of the tournament and transportation costs.
