YOUNG dancers from Darlington have been chosen to perform at celebrations to mark the Queen's birthday.

A team from the Tiffany School of Dance will travel to London at the weekend to take part in the Patron's Lunch Parade on The Mall.

The street party on Sunday will celebrate the Queen’s patronage of over 600 charities and organisations on her 90th birthday.

Ten girls aged from 11 to 17 will travel to the capital to perform a routine created by renowned Royal Academy of Dance choreography Lynn Wallis OBE.

Alison Simpson, from Tiffany School of Dance, said the girls only had a few weeks to learn the routine.

She added: "We were absolutely thrilled and surprised to have been chosen to take part.

"We have 180 to 200 pupils so it has been very difficult choosing who would go to make up the team.

"The girls have been so good keeping it a secret until we were able to tell people we were going - they couldn't even tell their best friends."

The dancers will be join other performers from around the country at the Patron's Lunch Parade, which organisers say will be a classic British street party lunch for 10,000 guests.

The event is the first of its kind ever to be held on The Mall.
