A NEW group in Darlington that aims to bring different faiths together is holding an informal event at Joseph Pease Place on July 25.
'Celebrating Community' is an informal inter-faith group, formed by Heighington ward councillor and former Darlington mayor Cllr Gerald Lee.
Its aim is to encourage members of different faith communities within Darlington to get to know and understand each other better.
They aim to organise various inter-faith events across the town and with the recent killings in Tunisia in mind, members have planned a short gathering by the Joseph Pease Statue in the town centre on July 25 at 2pm.
It will give the chance for faith communities and people of no faith to unite publicly in condemning such atrocities and will consist of an introduction, a time of silent prayer and meditation and a show of shared concern.
It is expected to last no more than 15 minutes and Celebrating Community welcomes everyone from the wider Darlington community to come together as a mark of respect to those who died and to those Muslims in Tunisia who supported the wounded after the event.
