A PARTY to celebrate 150 years of Darlington’s historic Covered Market is to be held next month.

Market traders past and present, staff, and customers of the Covered Market are invited to the event to share their memories of the landmark and celebrate its 150 years of trading.

The event, held on Saturday, June 15 at the Dolphin Centre, will also celebrate the work of Darlington Borough Council’s markets manager, Peter Wilson, who, after being involved with the market for 40 years, is being made redundant.

Samantha Blackham, who runs The Diner in the Covered Market, said: “There are a lot of generations who have worked at the market.

“The night is a chance for people to catch up with each other and share their memories and have a good time.”

The event, which starts at 7.30pm, will include a buffet, live music from Darlington band, Willow Creek, and a disco. Tickets are £10 and can be bought from The Diner in the Covered Market.

A number of Victorian-themed celebrations are also being held to mark the anniversary on Friday and Saturday, June 7 and 8.
