AN APPEAL to bring new state-of-the-art MRI scanners to hospitals in County Durham and Darlington is in line for a boost from a firm of solicitors.

Hewitts solicitors has adopted the Charity of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust’s scanner appeal as its chosen cause for 2018.

Funds are being raised to cover the £2.5m cost for the scanners.

Patients at Bishop Auckland Hospital are already benefitting from the new scanner which provides much improved images while the scanner at Darlington Memorial Hospital is expected to be installed later in the spring.

Hewitts partner, Ben Green, said: “Many of us take part in sporting and other activities and it’s great to think that while we’re enjoying ourselves, we’re also raising money for this fantastic cause. One of the reasons we chose the MRI Scanner appeal is that there’s potential for local people from all walks of life and backgrounds to benefit from this equipment.

“We’ve a justgiving page and would welcome sponsors.”

A number of activities are planned for the year including a Gung-ho Challenge at Wynyard Hall on March 26.
