A KNIFEMAN fled with £150 cash after threatening a shopkeeper.

Just before 7pm on Wednesday police received a report that a man had entered Sandhu Wine and News in Cedar Road, Fenham, carrying a knife.

He threatened the male staff member and demanded he hand over the contents of the till. The robber then fled with about £150.

The staff member was not injured but he was left shaken by the robbery.

Enquiries to locate the man responsible are ongoing and police have now appealed for anyone who may have seen him in the area to get in touch.

He is described as white, about 5ft 7ins tall, aged in his late 20s to early 30s and was wearing a dark coloured hoodie with his hood up.

At this stage, police do not believe there is any link between this robbery and the attempted robbery at the Chinese restaurant in Walker on Tuesday.
