POLICE have warned youngsters and parents that any bad behaviour over the school holidays will be dealt with "robustly".

Cleveland Police have said that anyone involved in any type of antisocial behaviour and criminal damage over the holiday break will "suffer the consequences".

The warning comes as, historically, police see an increase in calls at this time of the year and the force want both parents and their children to understand that there is "no excuse" for this type of behaviour.

Jason Harwin, assistant chief constable said: “Those who commit acts of crime and criminal damage may see it as acceptable – but they are causing misery and suffering for others, and this behaviour won’t be tolerated and will be dealt with swiftly and robustly.

“My message to parents is: ‘Do you know where your children are and what they are doing?

“We’ll be carrying out high visibility patrols and also signposting youths to diversionary activities which have been set up in conjunction with Local Authorities.

“Let this be a warning to those who think it’s acceptable to commit crime this half term, we won’t tolerate it and you may well face criminal proceedings in a court of law.”

Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton Borough Council’s cabinet member for access, communities and community safety, added: “Our residents’ safety and the reduction of crime are of utmost importance to us and we remain committed to working with our partners to keep local communities safe and enjoyable for everyone.

“We know that this kind of behaviour can increase at this time of year and the Council’s are playing an important role in tackling this."
