VOLUNTEERS, shop workers and council cleaners have joined forces to undertake a ‘deep clean’ of Redcar High Street.

The work has been happening as part of the on-going Love It campaign and involved people giving up their time off to remove weeds and scrub off chewing gum to improve the look of the street.

Shop fronts have been improved and planters tidied up and it’s hoped shoppers will see an improvement by the coming weekend.

Councillor Alec Brown, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “I’m pleased to see the support that the deep clean has had and hopefully Redcar’s now cleaner High Street will encourage more visitors, and residents, to come and do their shopping in town.

“As well as thanking council staff and volunteers for giving their time to the deep clean, I would also like to thank the café Relish, who kindly offered to give everyone who was involved in the cleaning a free hot drink at the end of the day.

“Following Sunday’s work, we are looking forward to rolling out deep cleans across the borough.”
