The steelworks at Redcar
THE long-awaited relighting of the blast furnace at Redcar steelworks is due to take place later today.
A gas lance will be used to "reignite" the furnace in a ceremony this afternoon.
The first steel slabs are likely to be produced over the next three days.
Bosses at Sahaviriya Steel Industries (SSI) said that the steel plant, which was mothballed in 2010, will be lit after 3pm.
The site will eventually employ about 1,800 workers.
