THE A1 has reopened near Brompton-on-Swale following a collision which resulted in power cables lying across both carriageways.

The accident happened just after 1pm and involved a silver Vauxhall Astra which hit a pole at the side of the north-bound carriageway resulting in it leaning across the road and power cables lying across both carriageways and the central barrier. The road was closed in both directions at Scotch Corner and the turnoff to Catterick Garrison with diversions put in place. It reopened at 2.30pm after the cables were made safe.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
