MEMBERS of a youth council and their friends have been awarded certificates for helping out in their village.

Twelve youngsters, from Sadberge, took part in the voluntary sector's national Make a Difference Day project in October. They made small craft gifts and delivered them to people in the village who sometimes find it difficult to leave their house to meet others, or are elderly or poorly.

The children also made photograph frames, decorated plant pots and cards in three craft sessions sponsored by a grant from County Durham Community Foundation.

They made a total of 53 gifts.

Those who took part visited the Sadberge Older Aged Persons' Christmas meal at Sadberge Village Hall.

Organiser Millie Scaife said: "We had a great day. It was a pleasure working with the young people and seeing the delight on the faces of those opening their doors to them."
