A POLICE community support officer is swapping his local beat for the Great Wall of China to raise funds for charity.
PCSO Paul Payne is taking up the 50-mile challenge for Kidney Research UK.
The 40-yearold, of Yarm, near Stockton, who helps police in Guisborough, east Cleveland, is encouraging other people to join him on the trek.
He said: “When I saw there was an opportunity to help out and raise a large amount of money, I just couldn’t turn it down. It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity, as well as a chance to support a fantastic cause.
“I’ve received a huge amount of support from everyone at work, not to mention the wider community.”
The charity is looking to tempt 50 people from the region to take on the challenge.
The nine-day trek takes place from October 6 to 15 as part of the charity’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
