AN emergency meeting of the Start Fitness North-East Harrier League will be held next week in a bid to resolve a growing fixture crisis.

The region’s major cross country competition usually holds six meetings during the winter months, but this season the bad weather had already claimed two fixtures.

With only two fixtures completed officials are hoping to work out new dates for the meetings which were due to be held at Blaydon and on Newcastle Town Moor.

It has been proposed that Blaydon Harriers can rearranged their fixture, postponed in November, for March 12, when it will include the popular Sherman Cup and Davison Shield competitions, usually held on a separate date at South Shields.

The Elswick Harriers meeting, which has been stood down from Saturday, January 8, to accommodate the rearranged North-East Cross Country Championships at Temple Park, South Shields, is likely to be squeezed in before or between the two final dates, at Wrekenton (February 26) and Prudhoe (March 26).
