A FOURTH Dan kick-boxer is launching a class in the martial art for people of all ages at Ushaw Moor's Deerness Leisure Centre.

Richard Bevens, 35, of Gateshead, has been involved in the martial arts for 24 years and has been a black belt for 20 years.

He used to run a kick-boxing class in Newcastle, but had to give it up while he recovered from a knee injury.

"It should be of interest to anyone who wants to learn how to defend themselves and get fit. It is for kids and adults,'' he said.

"I'm hoping that maybe I'll get a few future black belts coming through.''

The classes start next week, and will be held on Wednesdays, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, and on Fridays, between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

The sessions cost £3 for adults and £2 for children and people can turn up on the night. For further details, call Mr Bevens on 07725 356366.
