A CHARITY dinner is being held in honour of a leading charity worker.
The dinner, this evening, is being attended by Dr Vikas Amte and his daughter, Dr Sheetal Amte.
The Amtes represent the Indian charity Anandwan, which means Forest of Bliss. It was founded 55 years ago by Dr Vikas Amte's father, the social activist Baba Amte.
It was set up to rehabilitate leprosy patients with an emphasis on dignity rather than charity or sympathy.
The organisation has now expanded and thousands of dispossessed people visit it each year where they live and work as equals.
The charity dinner is being held at the residence of Dr Sulha and Shinu Desai at Silverwoods, 6 Almone'rs Barn, Durham, DH1 3TZ.
Anyone interested in the attending the dinner is asked to contact Dr Desai on 07772 7094775 or Mohini Kelkar on 07738 310672.
