Footballer’s car up for auction... but how well does it take corners?

FOOTBALLER David Beckham may be a fashion icon and the darling of the gossip columns, but he is also renowned for his taste in flash cars.

With Victoria by his side, he likes to cut a dash on the roads, and his choice of transport has included Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Aston Martin, Porsche and even a Humvee.

Now, for those aching to follow in their hero’s tyre-tracks, a Catterick dealer is offering one of the former England star’s cast-offs for sale.

But, as befits something that once belonged to a bigspending multi-millionaire, the ten-year-old car, with 17,825 miles on the clock, will not come cheap.

Catterick Car Sales has just listed the rare TVR Cerbera on eBay, where it will remain for another eight days. Starting bids must be in excess of £20,000. It was built to Becks’ specifications in 2000 and is finished in “crystal topaz,” a rare, pearlescent blue that was chosen by Victoria.

Predictably, the interior is equally luxurious, trimmed in magnolia leather and finished with Royal blue stitching.

Should the new owner wish to show off his vehicle’s glamorous past, there are two manufacturer’s name plates, one inside the driver’s door and the other in the engine bay, that celebrate Becks taking delivery of the vehicle on March 1, 2000.

For the past six years, the Cerbera has been garaged as part of a private collection and has, therefore, covered fewer than 100 miles in that time.

But when it does take to the road, its performance figures are impressive.

It is fitted with a 4.5-litre V8 powerplant that produces 420bhp, making it capable of reaching 195mph and accelerating to 60mph in 3.8 seconds.

For those not interested in performance figures, the financial figures could be just as tempting.

As Becks is one of the most recognised celebrities in the world, some of his previous cars have sold for staggering figures.

A BMW M3 from his early days at Manchester United went for £90,100 when sold on eBay five years ago.
