A GROUP of unicyclists riding the 160-mile Coast-to-Coast route passed through part of the region yesterday.

About 20 people from all over the country are taking part in the fundraising challenge, which started in Cumbria on Tuesday, and is due to finish at Robin Hood’s Bay, in North Yorkshire, next week.

The group, who are raising money for the British Heart Foundation, stayed overnight last night at the Barrington Bunkhouse, in Rookhope, Weardale, County Durham.

Valerie Livingston, who owns the bunkhouse, said: “We have had quite a few cyclists come through here, but it is quite something having a group of unicyclists staying over.

“I think what they are doing is amazing and they are all very brave.”

The unicyclists are hoping to cover about 35 miles a day and have so far raised thousands of pounds between them in online donations.
