CHARITY fundraisers travelling the length of Britain in classic cars have stopped off in the region.

Members of the Wolseley Register fan club are driving from John O’Groats to Land’s End for Help for Heroes.

They are driving classic Wolseley cars and arrived in Ripon yesterday to stop at the plumbers’ merchant that shares its name with the car.

Boroughbridge Mayor Geoff Craggs, the chairman of the Wolseley Register, was given a framed picture of a 19th Century Wolseley car by the Wolseley plumbers’ merchant, which also donated to the appeal.

He said: “We are grateful to Wolseley for accommodating us.

“We were so pleased that Wolseley could welcome us on our Yorkshire leg of the journey. Their hospitality was a real boost to the drivers and certainly helped them tackle the next leg of the trip.”

The drivers, some in cars dating from the Thirties, set off from Scotland on Thursday and aim to reach Land’s End on Tuesday.

It is hoped the charity run will raise more than £5,000.
