A MAN from the Bishop Auckland area is in hospital after a serious incident in Newcastle on Friday afternoon.
Police are not revealing much information about the circumstances surrounding the incident, other than to say it happened around 3pm in the West End of the city.
It had been suggested the man was the victim of a stabbing, but a spokesman for Northumbria Police said the investigation was in its very early stages and she could not reveal what had happened.
"At the present time the male is receiving treatment for his injuries and we cannot confirm what weapon has been used or what type of injury it is," she said.
The spokesman said she did not believe that at the time of asking anyone had been detained in relation to the incident.
