A DANCE school came away from a recent championship with an array of silverware.

Thirty-five members of the Linda Camsell School of Dance, from Stanley, took part in the 20th East Coast Freestyle Dance Festival, held at Cayton Bay, North Yorkshire, over the Easter break.

The school, also known as the Camsell Crew, was awarded sashes for outright winners in 16 categories.

The school's youngest winner was five-year-old Keeley Dickman, the daughter of Darlington and former Sunderland footballer Jonjo Dickman and his wife Michelle.

Mrs Camsell said: "She's only previously done a couple of competitions and we were going to enter her into a beginners' section. But, there was an under-six class, so we entered her in that and she won it.

"She did tremendously well, and hopefully she'll be back to win again next year."

Camsell Crew members are now preparing for the Ultimate Championship, in Sheffield, on May 7.

The school attracts scores of youngsters from across north-west Durham.

It meets at the Hibernia Club, in Station Road, on Wednesday, from 7pm to 9pm, and at Stanley Community Centre, in Tyne Road, on Saturday, from 10am to 5pm.
