A DOG died in a house fire at the weekend in what was a busy two days for firefighters.

The dog died of smoke inhalation when the property in St Leonards Road, Guisborough, east Cleveland, became smoke-logged on Saturday afternoon.

A budgerigar was rescued by firefighters and no one was hurt.

Cleveland Fire Brigade said they were called to the scene just after 1.20pm after a washer/drier caught alight, resulting in 100 per cent smoke damage to the house.

At 8.20pm on Saturday, two fire appliances were called to a house fire in Hesleden Avenue, Acklam, Middlesbrough, where a blaze was reported on the ground floor.

There was five per cent fire damage to the hallway and 90 per cent severe smoke damage to the ground floor of the property.

And at 10.25pm on Saturday, a house fire was also reported in Brendan Crescent, Billingham.

Two appliances from Stockton attended and oxygen was given to two occupants, who both suffered from asthma, however, they did not need hospital treatment.

A small quantity of clothing was destroyed by fire.

In the early hours of Sunday, at 4.10am, three fire engines went to a burning disused signal box in Haverton Hill Road, in High Clarence, Middlesbrough.

About 85 per cent of the signal box was destroyed, but no one was hurt.
