A CHARITY which supports people with sight loss has won a grant to distribute specially-adapted wireless equipment.
The County Durham Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted has been awarded £2,200 by the British Wireless for the Blind Fund.
It will help the society to continue providing people with adapted audio equipment, including radio cassette and CD radio cassette players.
The society issues and demonstrates the equipment in people's homes.
Anyone registered blind or partially sighted can borrow equipment on a free long-term loan.
Items available include digital radios and CD radio cassette players, with headphones.
The equipment is adapted to help people suffering sight loss, with bright yellow control buttons, and tactile markings for those with less vision.
Volunteer co-ordinator Sandra Hillyard said the society hoped it could make the service available to even more people.
For information, contact Ms Hillyard on 0191-386 8175.
