RESIDENTIAL care homes will receive civic praise today for providing star quality accommodation for hundreds of people.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's Mayor, Councillor Peter Spencer, will present 22 homes with five-star awards and seven more with four-star awards at a lunch at Pinchinthorpe Hall, Newton-under-Roseberry, near Guisborough.
The awards come after the homes were inspected as part of a nationwide benchmarking scheme, which they pay to be accredited to.
The scheme rewards the homes with additional funding in a programme of ratings from two to five stars.
Councillor Valerie Halton, cabinet member for health and social service, said: "Congratulations are extended to the providers and Social Services staff for the partnership-working that has achieved one of the highest number of four and five star ratings in the country.
"It has been a very successful initiative, raising standards at the homes and ensuring we have the highest quality care for our residents."
The scheme, which can assist potential residents and their relatives and carers when choosing a care home, sends an inspection team to each home, judging them on criteria, including quality of care and staffing.
