A children's TV character is now an environmental champion.
Bob the Builder has been the figurehead for the Asda Big Recycling Scheme at the Portrack Lane store, in Stockton.
Customers and colleagues at the store have been collecting used postage stamps, which will then go to buy wind-up radios for Rwanda, South Africa and Kenya.
Jill Fidan, Asda's events co-ordinator, said the radios were essential for people's education and information in the countries.
She added: "Bob the Builder has been asking everyone to recycle stamps.
"To Bob's joy, on Thursday, an anonymous couple came in and left six bin bags full of used stamps."
