A GROUP of superfit posties will be tackling a very different round this summer when they take on the Three Peaks Challenge.

Seven staff from the Royal Mail depot in Scarborough will don their walking boots for the task in July to raise money for St Catherine's Hospice.

They will be aiming to climb the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - in 24 hours.

Hospice fundraiser Maya Liversidge said: "It'll be tough, but we're sure they'll do it.

"Partnerships like this bring enormous benefits, not just for Saint Catherine's but for partner organisations too."

Steve Hood, manager at the delivery office, is among those taking part. He said: "This challenge is just one of the ideas we have had and we're also hoping to hold a charity football match in May with Scarborough FC.

"I'd like to say we're all reasonably fit, after all we carry bags of post around all morning or cycle around town to get the mail out.

"We hope to set off from the delivery office on the afternoon of Friday, 7 July, and return in time for a well-deserved Sunday lunch.

"That will be more than the set 24 hours, but we have included the hours of driving into our challenge too."

Help the Hospices teamed up with Royal Mail last year. The link encourages Royal Mail staff to raise funds for their local hospice and join in with hospice events or work.
