CARLOS LOGAN will go under the surgeon's knife next week, amid fears Darlington may have seen the last of the winger this season.

A double hernia threatens to bring Logan's campaign to a premature end, inflicting more woe on Quakers' fading play-off hopes.

It was hoped initially that Logan had sustained nothing more than a groin twinge in training.

But it has since emerged he has suffered a recurrence of a long-standing hernia problem.

The 20-year-old faces a six-week rehabilitation period after surgery and physio Paul Gough admitted: "By the time the operation comes around in ten days and the duration it takes to recover, it looks as though Carlos will miss the rest of the season."

David Duke has not played since November after suffring a groin injury. But, like Logan, it later transpired that Duke had sustained a double hernia.

After three months out, Duke played in a behind closed doors game at Doncaster on Monday night without any problems and is in contention for Saturday's visit of Chester City.

Manager David Hodgson will also hope to welcome back skipper Matt Clarke. He returns to training tomorrow after a fortnight on the sidelines with a groin injury.

However, midfielders Neale McDermott (sprained ankle) and Phil Stamp (calf strain) are out.

Hodgson has yet to make a decision on striker Andy Cooke, who is due to return to Bradford City after Saturday's game. Cooke has scored one goal in three appearances.

It is likely Cooke will remain for a second month, while Hodgson could yet add another forward- from a Premiership club - to his squad before Saturday.

* Jason St Juste is looking for a new club after failing to earn a contract at Huddersfield Town. The winger walked out on Quakers last summer to join Southampton, but failed to make an impression at St Mary's.
