STUDENTS donned fancy dress costumes and walked along the River Tees to raise cash for a college project.

The 12 students from Stockton Riverside College set off from Tees Barrage and walked to the Transporter Bridge and back last Friday, dressed as a cowboy, cat, Father Christmas, The Fonz and a schoolboy, among other characters.

Student Danielle Walker, 23, said the students were all studying on a Prince's Trust personal development course at the college, and were creating a sensory garden at St Paul's Primary School, in Billingham.

She said the students raised £60 on their walk, which will be used to buy equipment for the garden.

"We raised the money through sponsorship, but we also plan to call up different companies to see if they can donate anything for the garden," she said.

She added: "We are working on the garden at the moment, and hope to have it finished in about three weeks."
