DWIGHT Yorke has rounded on Graeme Souness, labelling the former Magpies boss 'arrogant'.

The ex-Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers striker also claimed the Scot fails to form relationships with his best players, and was always ready to blame them when his sides were struggling.

The 34-year-old, who will lead Trinidad and Tobago's strikeforce at the World Cup, played under Souness during two unsuccessful seasons at Ewood Park.

Souness famously fell out with Craig Bellamy at St James' Park, with the fans' favourite farmed out on loan to Celtic before securing a permanent £5m move to Blackburn Rovers last summer.

He also rowed with French winger Laurent Robert, and Yorke, who now plays in Australia for Sydney FC, said: "If you listen to him it always seems to be the player's fault but you can't fall out with the best players.

"I certainly found him to be a very arrogant man. As a player you can't knock what he achieved in the game but as a manager you can't fall out with the best players at your club."

Souness was replaced by Glenn Roeder, and the caretaker boss has been backed to take on the role full-time by striker Shola Ameobi.

The former West Ham boss initially insisted he was not a candidate for the permanent job, but Ameobi has urged him to change his mind.

"Glenn has been fantastic for me as a player," said Ameobi, who has scored twice in Roeder's six games in charge. ''He has instilled confidence in each and every one of us.

"Apart from the football side, he really is a fantastic guy and he knows what he is talking about. He is an excellent manager who is really doing his stuff.

"I hope he does decide to stay because he is the man to take us forward."
