A GRANDMOTHER accused of urinating on a family grave made her first appearance in court yesterday.

Annette Slight, 54, appeared before Sunderland Magistrates' Court charged with outraging public decency.

Mrs Slight, of Well Street, Pallion, Sunderland, listened in silence as the charge was read out.

The grandmother-of-four was arrested days after a newspaper revealed a woman had been caught dropping her trousers and urinating near a freshly-laid grave.

The incident is alleged to have taken place on January 29.

The solicitor for Mrs Slight, Lisa Bishop, asked the magistrates for a two-week adjournment to allow her to take further instructions from the defendant.

Magistrates adjourned the case until March 1, and granted bail to Mrs Slight on condition she did not communicate with any of the prosecution witnesses and did not enter Bishopwearmouth Cemetery in the city. No pleas were entered
