OFFICERS hunting the killer of mother-of-five Audrey Badger have interviewed more than 250 people from the area.

Since the murder on Saturday, Cleveland Police are confident they are building up a clearer picture of Ms Badger's life, including her friends, her habits and her visitors.

Detective Chief Inspector Darren Best said yesterday they were moving closer to finding the person responsible.

"This is similar to piecing together a giant jigsaw," he said. "In this case we know some pieces are missing.

"We know there are a number of people out there who have information that could prove vital to this inquiry who, for one reason or another, have not spoken out and have not come forward."

Ms Badger's 12-year-old twin daughters have penned a list of nine questions regarding the details of their mother's murder.

Det Chief Insp Best said: "Some of the questions - who found their mother's body; who rang the police; and what were her injuries - I can deal with.

"Others lie purely in the domain of her killer.

"That person will have seen pictures of Audrey cuddling the twins just days after they were born.

"I would ask that person to look into their conscience and think very carefully because sooner, rather than later, officers are going to be knocking on their door."

Anyone who knew Ms Badger or has information about the murder at her home in Stirling Way, Thornaby, is asked to contact the incident room on (01642) 301333.
