A TALENTED team of young female footballers has won the title of county champions.
The under-11 side at Coxhoe Primary School won through against seven other teams at an English Schools Football Association competition at Soccerena, in Durham City.
The girls will now go on to represent County Durham at the North of England under-11 championship, to be held at Blackburn, in May.
The Coxhoe team was made up of Nicole Lawson, Sophie Wilson, Lauren Dodsworth, Lauren Johnston, Abbie Hodgson, Emily Stores, Hayley Bargh, Laura Taylor and Jessica Keelty.
Manager Stuart Skaife said he was delighted with the team's performance and praised parents and school staff for their support.
He added: "I'm really proud of the girls who, from humble beginnings, have worked so hard to get together as a team. They truly deserve this success."
Headteacher John Brennan said: "We are all very pleased and proud of this achievement.
"We're looking forward to our trip to Blackburn, where we'll be honoured to represent our county."
A show night is being held at Coxhoe Workingmen's Club on Wednesday, March 1, at 7.30pm, the proceeds from which will go to funding sports equipment for Coxhoe Primary.
The event has been organised by parents and supporters of the school.
Tickets, priced £3, can be bought from the club or the school
