IN its 400th year, a school presented awards to star pupils from the class of 2005.

King James I Community College, in Bishop Auckland, held an annual prize evening to reward the achievements and hard work of pupils at the school.

The school enjoyed a good year with record GCSE results last term, and Tom Wright, Bishop of Durham, presented the awards and addressed students.

David Shearer, assistant headteacher, said: "The awards are celebrating the achievements of pupils throughout the past year for attainment and effort, sports performances and subject performances.

"We had record GCSE results for 2005 and continued improvement in the post-16 courses in the sixth form."
