YOUNGSTERS in Wear Valley gave their views on what matters to them in their communities at a conference.

About 50 youngsters, aged between six and 18, attended the Community Network Youth Conference.

Organised by The Wear Valley Community Network, the conference, held on Saturday, was part of the launch of a community plan for the area.

The group of youngsters was made up of members of youth clubs and drama groups, young carers and socially excluded children.

Joseph Emery, the UK Youth Parliament representative from Parkside School, also attended as the youngsters contributed their views on the issues in the Community Plan.

Robert Fothergill, childrens participation worker for the Wear Valley, said: "It was a fantastic event and really encouraging to see so many children and young people coming along and openly talking about the things that are important to them."

A similar event was held at Coundon Community Partnership office on Tuesday, where a further 22 children were able to add their views.

Events will be held across Wear Valley. To express their views children can call Mr Fothergill at 2D in Crook on (01388) 762220.
