A BRITISH man has died and another is fighting for his life after they were both attacked in Amsterdam, police have confirmed.
It is thought the pair could be Middlesbrough FC fans and were in Holland to watch their team play a Uefa Cup match last night.
Steve McClaren's club reached the knockout stages of the European competition after sharing a goalless draw with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, who are based just 37 miles from Amsterdam.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: ''We are in regular contact with police in Holland following information received by Cleveland Police this morning of an attack that took place in Amsterdam.
''This incident resulted in the death of one man and severe injuries to another man.''
