Meanwhile, in St John's Chapel Town Hall, a team of helpers has been baking Pudsey bear biscuits, which will go on sale on Friday at the tuck shop in the cinema club.

Pudsey biscuits, chocolates and cake will be on sale from 5.30pm to 6pm before the showing of Star Wars, Revenge of the Sith.

Tudhoe Moor nursery will serenade customers at Asda Spennymoor with Pudsey Bear from 10.30am.
