AN inn in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales has been officially reopened after a £500,000 facelift.

The owners of the White Swan in Middleham, Paul and Helen Klein, bought the old post office next door to create a 60-seat brasserie and five new bedrooms, making a total of 17.

Among about 150 guests at the reopening ceremony were former Conservative MP Sir Timothy Kitson, Kathryn Apanowicz, television and radio personality and partner of the late Richard Whiteley, and Middleham trainerJames Bethell.

Mr Klein, who also runs the award-winning Blue Lion at nearby East Witton, said: "Helen and I originally bought the White Swan in 2001 and have always wanted to extend and modernise it. When the post office next door came on the market, it made perfect sense to buy it.
