A Bishop Auckland charity shop is facing a second crisis this year because of a lack of local donations.
Gifts of items for sale have tailed off since the Barnado's store opened in Newgate Street last year, and it can only stay open because goods are being shipped in from other stores in the region.
Barnardo's said yesterday that an appeal to Bishop Auckland residents a few months ago, when the shop first faced problems, had produced a huge response with a great amount of good quality unwanted goods coming in.
But David Abdale, Barnardo's North-East retail manager, said that donations had now dwindled to crisis point.
He said: "We are terribly lacking in donations from local people.
"We would ask that Bishop Auckland people consider bringing their unwanted items to Barnardo's.
"Donations will keep the shop going and help disadvantaged kids in the North-East."
Goods can be left at a car park behind the shop or telephone (01388) 606582.
