SESSIONS for the youngest children at Darlington library are to be extended.

Baby Rhymetime sessions are held at the Crown Street venue for children and their parents.

The sessions help develop babies' language and co-ordination through music and song.

Baby Rhymetime has been so successful that it is now being extended to Cockerton library and there are plans in the new year to make sessions at both venues more regular.

Lee Vasey, Darlington Borough Council's cabinet member for leisure services, said: "The sessions are fun for parents and their children and are a great way to help youngsters develop basic skills.

"So many young families have enjoyed the sessions at the Crown Street library and I am sure the new sessions in Cockerton will be popular."

The first Baby Rhymetime in Cockerton library will take place next Friday, between 10.30am and 11.30am.

On the same day, there will be a session at the Crown Street library, from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. There is no need to book a place.
