Pat Haslam is in the enviable position of choosing between three Group One races around the world for Kinnaird following her victory at Longchamp.

The filly ended Haslam's 33-year wait for a first success at the highest level in the Prix de l'Opera and will bid to double that total before the end of the month.

Connections have the pick of three Group One races over a mile and a quarter - the EP Taylor Stakes in Canada, the Lydia Tesio in Rome or the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Belmont Park. The first two races are on Sunday, October 23 with the third the following Saturday.

''It's been a long time coming. I hope they are like red London buses,'' said Haslam, who watched the best day in his training career unfold from home. He also had a double at Kelso to support Kinnaird's Longchamp heroics.

''Kinnaird's flying home at lunchtime. She's eaten up and has come out of the race very well,'' added Haslam who first took out a licence in 1972, training first at Newmarket before moving up to Middleham in North Yorkshire.

''It may be that two or three fillies had an off-day so it may not have been as strong a race.

''I'm not being clever after the event but we did fancy her a bit and felt she would finish in the first four.

''She has been unlucky this year in two runs at the Curragh and we did think she would win at Royal York but she hated the ground that day.

''Where she runs next depends on the ground. We want it good or softer and that is hard to guarantee but you don't want to go all the way to America and find the ground is not right.''

Kinnaird, owned by Renata Jacobs whose husband Klaus owns Newsells Park Stud, will be retired at the end of the season and could possibly be covered by Giant's Causeway.

* Connections of Motivator will soon decide whether to give the Derby winner one more race or retire him to stud following his run in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

The colt looked like taking Europe's premier middle-distance prize for the Royal Ascot Racing Club when bursting into the lead two furlongs out but could not maintain his challenge in the final furlong.

Even so he still finished a creditable fifth behind Hurricane Run to add to his second places in the Coral-Eclipse and Irish Champion Stakes after his Epsom Classic triumph.

* Frankie Dettori made up for a disappointing Arc weekend with a 1124-1 four-timer at Windsor.

The champion jockey was out of luck in France on Saturday and Sunday, but returned to form on Godolphin's Crested (14-1), Ed McMahon's Bahamian Ballet (4-1) Godolphin's Spider Power (4-1) and finally Poker Player (2-1).
