DARLINGTON were last night in talks with Carlos Logan's representatives after deciding to offer the winger a permanent deal.

Logan impressed in yesterday's behind-closed-doors friendly at Bradford City, doing enough to convince manager David Hodgson that he is worth a contract.

Providing discussions go according to plan, Logan will become Hodgson's sixth signing of the summer and will go straight into the squad for Saturday's League Two opener at Rushden and Diamonds.

Logan spent the final two months of last season loaned out to Chesterfield from Manchester City. After being deemed surplus to requirements at Eastlands, Logan has been on the look-out for a new club.

The winger trained with Chesterfield last month, before linking up with the Quakers on a trial basis seven days ago.

After making an impact in the two games against Bradford, as well as featuring at Durham City last Friday night, Logan will come in as a straight replacement for the departed Jason St Juste.

"Carlos did very well at Bradford and we feel he has done enough to earn a contract with us," said Hodgson.

Quakers ran out 3-1 winners at Valley Parade yesterday, with trialist Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu grabbing two goals and substitute Akpo Sodje claiming his second strike in as many games.

But, while Sodje's emergence provides encouraging back-up to Simon Johnson and Clyde Wijnhard, Hodgson is undecided over Ndumbu-Nsungu.

Darlington: Russell, Martis, Hutchinson, Clarke, Valentine, Webster, Appleby, Dickman, Logan, Johnson, Ndumbu-Nsungu Subs: Bossu, Jameson, Peacock, Duke, Kendrick, Thomas, Maddison, Sodje

Quakers will begin the season at the Darlington Football Stadium after their sponsorship deal with Williamson Motors expired.

The club is in discussions with a number of parties interested in sponsoring the stadium and an announcement will be made this month.

Tickets for Quakers' Carling Cup clash at Hartlepool United went on general sale yesterday. The club have been allocated the Rink End, which holds just under 1,000 for the all-ticket derby clash at Victoria Park on August 23.

l Wrexham have handed a trial to Spanish defender Alvaro Parra Dioni, a friend of Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta.

The 23-year-old, known as Parra, came through the same Antiguoko youth system that has produced the likes of Arteta and Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

* Josh Gowling is poised to sign a one-year deal at Bournemouth after a successful trial spell at Dean Court.

The 21-year-old defender has spent the last two years in Danish football after coming through the ranks at West Brom, and played in the Cherries' 2-1 friendly defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
