MARTIN Scott's squad head off to Holland on the club's pre-season tour today, with the likelihood of a further addition to the ranks.

Rotherham's former Sunderland striker Michael Proctor is ready to join Hartlepool for their assault on League One, after he negotiated his release from The Millers.

Sunderland-born Proctor moved from the Stadium of Light in February 2004, but failed to make a big impression in the struggling side.

New boss Mick Harford has said Proctor can leave despite having a further year left on his contract and, with Scott keen on his services, a move to Victoria Park appears a formality.

Scott, who last week secured the services of defender Micky Nelson on a new deal, is adding plenty of firepower to his squad.

Proctor's arrival will take Pool's striking options to six, after Welsh international Chris Llewellyn moved to the North-East last week to join Adam Boyd, Joel Porter, Jon Daly and Eifion Williams in the fight for places.

Proctor netted seven times in 32 Championship starts in South Yorkshire, as well as two goals in four games in a loan spell at Swindon towards the end of last season.

At Sunderland, he scored five times, the most memorable a late winner against Liverpool in a December 2002 victory- the last time the Black Cats won a Premiership game.

While Scott's sole departure this summer has been central defender Chris Westwood, the recently-appointed boss has Ben Clark and Mark Tinkler to slot alongside Nelson and could be ready to start the season with either of the pair.

Pool will stay at the KNVB headquarters for a third successive year and face Top Oss on Wednesday and Den Bosch on Friday.
