A JAPANESE tourist was knocked unconscious by muggers when he asked them for directions.
The 67-year-old was returning to his hotel when he approached three men in the Thornleigh Road area of Jesmond, Newcastle, at 9.15pm on Tuesday.
The men demanded cash, but when he refused they punched him and knocked him unconscious.
They stole cash from his pockets and made off along St George's Terrace towards Newcastle city centre.
The tourist was treated in hospital and released.
All the attackers were aged 20 to 25. One was 5ft 9in, the second was a 6ft 2in skinhead, wore a black jacket and was unshaven. The third man was also a skinhead, 6ft 3in, wearing a blue jacket and jeans.
