POLICE investigating the rape of a 14-year-old girl at the weekend have made an appeal for information.

A police spokesman said the victim was sitting on a bench in Westoe Road, Westoe, South Shields, at 2.30am on Saturday when she was approached by her attacker.

The man struck up a conversation with her, before walking with her to South Marine Park - about ten minutes away on foot.

There, he indecently assaulted and raped her.

The two then left together down Beach Road at about 3.30pm, before the attacker doubled back and fled.

He has been described as aged 19-20, with short fair hair, clean shaven and wearing a dark coloured shirt and jeans. He did not have a local accent
